Advertising & Marketing CommunicationsIn particular, I'm interested in non-traditional and grassroots advertising and how a mix of different marketing tactics can help local businesses and community organizations communicate its ideas and messages. I can help design, plan, and execute a creative, effective marketing campaign. Advertising EthicsAs someone who has taken part in anti-advertising activism, I have a strong sense of advertising ethics — and an acute awareness of what constitutes unethical, offensive, or patronizing advertising. This is important, not just because bad advertising is awful for our culture and reflects poorly on the company producing it, but increasingly jaded and media-savvy consumers can readily detect and tune out such advertising. Advertising is my field, and I take it very seriously. When you produce an advertisement, you are asking someone for some of their time — for many, an already scarce resource — so that you can sell them a product, an idea, or an image. And there's no getting around it — it is presumptuous. The implicit promise we make to those we advertise to is that we won't waste their time with bland, dishonest, or otherwise awful advertisements, and it's a promise I feel strongly about keeping. Web 2.0 ConsultationWeb 2.0 — defined in part as the generation of online services that emphasize user-generated content, collaboration, and information-sharing, and most commonly associated with social networking services like MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter — is a popular marketing buzzword. Some say that it's critical for any modern business to build relationships with their consumers. But the truth is, businesses and organizations must use Web 2.0 applications with care. While they provide an opportunity to build authenticity, the opposite can occur if they're used incorrectly. Not all businesses need a MySpace profile, and sometimes writing no tweets is better than an emotionless, unattended Twitter account. I can help determine what, if any, Web 2.0 applications are appropriate for your organization, and how they can be best used to build relationships with your target audience. Writing ContentI have strong experience writing content: for a website, for advertisements, for op-eds and opinion pieces, and for promotional materials. Relevant skills:
